The Pasadena Star-News | Sun 01/19 12:34pm PST | Staff report
Pasadena’s fire chief has directed the activation of red flag parking restrictions in the city, an effort to be ready for wind-driven fire hazards early this week.
Fire Chief Chad Augustin directed the restrictions, which will be in effect starting 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20 through 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, unless conditions change.
Those conditions have authorities concerned about increased fire danger and the ability of fire personnel to move around and be ready to move when needed. The restrictions are also needed in case there are evacuations.
Streets where parking is restricted on red flag days are posted with appropriate “No Parking” signs. If signs are not posted, that street is not affected, officials said.
Vehicles on restricted roads will be cited and towed. Additional information, including the complete list of streets with restricted parking, is available at CityOfPasadena.net/Fire/Red-Flag-Parking-Restrictions.
Santa Ana winds are expected to return to inland areas on Monday. They’ll be at their strongest on Monday night into Tuesday and continue through the week.
Parts of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties all will be under a red flag warning beginning on Monday morning, the NWS said. The strongest Santa Anas are expected Tuesday morning.
Officials said now is the time to review personal evacuation plans and make sure emergency kits are stocked with everything needed should you have to evacuate.

Residents can register for the Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System (PLEAS) to receive voice, email and/or text emergency notifications.
PLEAS messages are sent in the event of imminent danger where action, such as evacuation, is required. Once you’ve registered with PLEAS, city officials also recommend registering with the County’s Alert LA County mass notification system.
Nixle is the primary notification system for the Pasadena Police Department. Register at Nixle.com to receive alerts by text message and/or email. You can also text your ZIP code to 888777 to opt in.
