Pasadena officials on Tuesday, Jan. 21, extended red flag warnings and parking restrictions within the city through 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, due to the ongoing threat of fire weather conditions.
The alert, issued by Fire Chief Chad Augustin, builds on a previous warning that was in effect from 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20 through 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21. The restrictions will be in place unless conditions change, officials said.
Red flag warnings are issued to enhance first responders access and ensure that streets are cleared for potential evacuations during fire events.
To support these efforts, parking is restricted on posted narrow and/or winding roads within Pasadena’s urban-wildland interface areas, officials said in the announcement. In addition, vehicles parked on restricted roads will be cited and towed.
Residents can find more details, including the complete list of streets with restricted parking, at: CityOfPasadena.net/Fire/Red-Flag-Parking-Restrictions.
Pasadena officials first activated the red flag warning on Saturday as Los Angeles County braced for the return of Santa Ana winds.
The National Weather Service warned of “extreme” fire weather conditions, with the strongest winds expected from Monday night into Tuesday and persisting throughout the week. Impacted areas include parts of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego counties.
Officials urged residents to take proactive steps to prepare for potential evacuations, such as reviewing evacuation plans and ensuring that emergency kits are fully stocked with essentials, they said. For tips on wildfire preparation and prevention, please visit: ReadyForWildfire.org.
Residents are also encouraged to register for the Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System (PLEAS), which provides voice, email, and text notifications in cases of imminent danger requiring action, such as evacuations. To enhance preparedness, officials also recommend signing up for the County’s Alert LA County mass notification system.
For updates from the Pasadena Police Department, residents can also register with Nixle by visiting Nixle.com or texting their ZIP code to 888777 to opt in, officials said.
