A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after two spots in South Pasadena erupted in flames on Saturday, Jan. 18, city officials said Tuesday.
Authorities began receiving calls of a fire in the 200 block of Pasadena Avenue around 10:00 a.m. Firefighters arrived and saw an area around a power pole ablaze, and a trash fire behind a building at 205 Pasadena Avenue. They quickly extinguished it. The building was stained by smoke but otherwise undamaged, according to a city news release.
They learned that a man was seen fleeing the area.
Another call subsequently came in about a suspicious man entering a vacant property in the 100 block of Monterey Road. Officers responded and detained a 42-year-old Los Angeles man. He was arrested on suspicion of charges unrelated to arson.
As he was being booked, officers received evidence that linked him to the fire on Pasadena Avenue, the release stated. The South Pasadena Fire Department’s arson investigation team was deployed.
