SAN DIMAS—The Northview football team made its case for having the most explosive offense in the San Gabriel Valley area on Friday night in its 42-7 win over San Dimas.

Northview’s star wide receiver, Isaiah Lucero, had another big night. He reeled in five catches for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The do-it-all star also snagged his fifth interception of the season in the winning effort.

“It all starts at practice with everybody pushing through and executing, just like we did today,” Lucero said.

The Vikings have put themselves in the driver’s seat to win their second consecutive Valle Vista League title with two games left on their schedule.

“Like we keep telling them, it’s one game at a time. We gotta focus on the next game,” Northview coach Marcel Perez said. “We still don’t think we’ve played a perfect game, so that is the plan.”

It’s the lowest point total the Vikings have given up all season. Northview nearly pitched its first shutout of the year, but gave up a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

“I’ll just say our front seven is the best. We knew coming in that they don’t pass, so we just loaded the box and when the ball was up there, I tried to go snag one,” Lucero said.

On its opening possession of the game, the Vikings methodically drove the field. Northview used up a little over seven minutes and capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown rush from Dominic Munoz to take a 7-0 lead.

Disaster struck for San Dimas on its first play from scrimmage as Adam D’Mato fumbled deep in Saints territory.

The Vikings acted quickly and two plays later, Northview running back Aaron Guillen ran it for an 8-yard touchdown to put the Vikings up by two touchdowns.

Lucero grabbed the first of his three touchdown catches when quarterback Robert Lucero found him for a 37-yard connection.

On the ensuing drive, the Saints lost their second fumble of the game, killing all of the offensive momentum they had built.

Northview’s lone turnover of the game came late in the first half as the Vikings were on the verge of going up by five touchdowns. Robert Lucero threw his only interception of the night deep inside the red zone, ending Northview’s final drive of the first half.

San Dimas’ offensive struggles continued into the second half.

The Saints turned the ball over on their opening play from scrimmage to begin the second half as Lucero came down with an interception.

Northview’s lead grew to 42 points after scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter.

San Dimas running back Jacob Gallegos rumbled his way for a 43-yard touchdown for the Saints’ only score of the night with 2:45 left in the game.

With the win, the Vikings have all but guaranteed themselves an automatic qualifier spot from the Valle Vista League for the playoffs.

Northview will host Alta Loma next week. San Dimas looks to keep its playoff hopes alive at Baldwin Park.
